Building Strength at Home: Trumark Homes and Home Builders Foundation Partner to Create Accessibility for Adaptive CrossFit Leader

Kevin Ogar understands the importance of strength and independence. While competing in a fitness competition in early 2014, Ogar was paralyzed from the waist down when a barbell ricocheted and hit him in the back. After completing his own rehabilitation, he went through training and an internship to become an adaptive CrossFit coach. In 2015, Ogar opened his own gym,  CrossFit WatchTower, where he works with veterans and those with disabilities. He also competed in the CrossFit Adaptive Games and became a champion in 2022. Ogar serves as Head of Games and Sports for Adaptive CrossFit, which will host the international Adaptive CrossFit competition in Las Vegas September 12-14, 2025.
Kevin and his wife bought their home in 2020. Built in 1941, the home was not wheelchair accessible with narrow doorframes and an extremely tight bathroom. Kevin and his wife tackled some renovations on their own, but soon realized they needed help. That is when they reached out to Home Builders Foundation (HBF) to reimagine the bathroom. On the application, Ogar shared a personal reason behind the request: their dream of adopting a child. Having a fully accessible bathroom was more than a renovation. It was a vital step toward building their future family.
After learning about the Ogar’s request, Trumark Homes signed up as the Project Captain. Tim Karns, Colorado Operations Plans Manager, met with the Ogars and toured the home. He then reached out to several trade partners for help with plumbing, electrical  and additional modification. “We wanted this to be a home that the Ogars could live in and enjoy with a child of their own,” said Karns. The full project took about three weeks. In early August, HBF held a dedication at the home to thank everyone involved. Ogar and Karns proudly showed how the previously small spaces and outdated wiring and plumbing had been modified to create an open floor plan that Ogar could easily navigate. The most powerful moment came when Ogar wheeled into his new bathroom and showed how he can now shower and get ready for the day independently.
Thanking everyone who had worked on and supported the modification, Ogar talked about the importance of the CrossFit community in bringing together people of all backgrounds and abilities to support each other as they build internal and external strength for the future. He applauded the HBF community of home builders, trade partners, and supporters for their work in laying the foundation that will provide him with greater independence and allow him and his wife to start a family of their own.
