The nearly 300 builders, trade partners and professionals who attended Home Builders Foundation’s (HBF) Annual Celebration on October 10th enjoyed cocktails and delicious bites while catching up with old friends as the sun set behind the exhibition planes at Wings Over the Rockies Exploration of Flight. The Annual Celebration, presented by Alpine Lumber, is an opportunity for the building community and HBF supporters to gather with friends and peers and learn more about the work the nonprofit does to elevate the lives of those with physical disabilities. HBF, which provides home modifications to enhance safety and independence for those with physical disabilities, is HBA of Metro Denver’s Charity of Choice.
Throughout the evening, guests heard from HBF board, staff and clients about the impact of the nonprofit’s work. Geoff Haskell, HBF’s 2024 Board President, celebrated the 370 projects that were completed for 167 clients this year and praised the collaborative spirit of the nonprofit and the building industry partners who work together to make it all possible. Beth Forbes, HBF’s Executive Director, shared the nonprofit’s 3-year plan, which will usher in a new era during which an increasing number of client applications are fulfilled and project scopes will expand in order to allow clients to stay in their homes. The plan outlines a growth strategy that will allow HBF to complete 1,300 projects by the end of 2026 and expand services to renters. HBF client Frank Cawley, highlighted the importance of HBF’s work. Cawley, who was diagnosed with inclusion body myosis in his fifties, is the first known client to purchase a home previously modified by HBF for another client. In keeping with the nonprofit’s philosophy to create solutions tailored for each client, HBF made additional modifications to allow Cawley to move about his home safely and independently. Cawley praised the compassion and dedication of the team stating, “HBF’s crew made me feel valued. The progression of my disease is uncertain, but I know that they are always a phone call away.”
The attendees at HBF’s Annual Celebration embraced the vision for the new era through their generous contributions during the Paddle Raiser. Those funds will allow HBF to continue to provide modifications to elevate the lives of even more individuals living with disabilities in the coming years.
