Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified Payroll Supervisor to join our team. In this position you will Process bi-weekly, company-wide, domestic payroll under 3 or more FEINs in multiple states for ~2,000 exempt and non-exempt employees using Ultimate Software (UKG) systems. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Full-cycle payroll processing duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead payroll team in bi-weekly payroll processing in accordance with established procedures – ensuring precise, accurate, and timely processing.
    • Review/calculate time entries and time off requests.
    • Collect and review source documents for commissions, bonuses, terms, expense reimbursement, 3rd party sick pay, and other miscellaneous data and pay types.
  • Collaborate with divisions and departments to ensure accuracy of all data prior to bi-weekly payroll processing.
  • Create bi-weekly imports for loading data into UKG payroll system.
    • Manage wage assignments and garnishments to ensure accurate processing, payment by payroll services provider, and communication with required parties.
    • Prepare all payroll documentation in accordance with established key control processes.
  • Review/approve all manual check requests in accordance with Company policy.
  • Manage and resolve escalated payroll issues in a timely manner, providing excellent customer service to all employees and departments.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal policies and controls, as well as compliance with external laws and regulatory guidance, including Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Work closely with Accounting, Benefits, HR, HRIS, and other departments to ensure excellent communication and coverage of all payroll-related items.
  • Supervisory duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Develop broad knowledge of the Company and its business endeavors and an acute understanding current payroll processes and procedures.
    • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with members of the payroll team, as well as other members across the organization.
    • Facilitate clear and open communication between payroll team members and management.
    • Provide feedback and guidance to payroll team members and assist in development of performance goals and key metrics.
    • Manage work schedules to ensure adequate coverage to meet business needs.
    • Help to address and resolve conflicts that arise within the team.
    • Assist in department growth and training of new payroll team members.
    • Provide regular updates to management on team performance, challenges, and progress.
  • Payroll Administration duties, assisting the Payroll Manager with:
    • General Ledger Reporting, funding, and account reconciliations.
    • Preparation of tax reconciliations, filings, and investigation of tax notices/issues.
  • Compilation of monthly reports for accounting, production of labor distribution reports, and completion of multiple worksite reports and other required governmental surveys and reports.
  • Compilation of data for workers’ compensation renewals and audits.
  • Compilation of data for annual audit inquiries from both internal and external auditors.
  • Year-end payroll activities.
  • On-going and upcoming automation projects, including system conversions to UKG.
  • Development of procedures and documentation of best practices.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree or higher and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of multi-state, full-cycle payroll experience, with 1+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll administration, compliance, and tax laws; FPC or CPP preferred.
  • Intermediate Excel Skills required as defined by the ability to perform a range of tasks and functions beyond data entry. Intermediate proficiency includes adept knowledge of:
    • Keyboard shortcuts to enhance efficiency and productivity.
    • Formulas and functions, including SUM, AVERAGE, ROUND, IF, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, etc.
    • Data analysis, manipulation, and validation; including filtering, sorting, grouping, subtotaling, pivot tables, and other techniques to ensure accuracy and consistency of data.
  • Strong understanding of payroll software functionality. Ultimate Software (UKG) experience preferred (WorkForce Management, Pro/CORE, Back Office, Business Intelligence). Systems implementation and/or automation experience a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to precision and accuracy.
  • Independent self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple demands, high volume, and strict deadlines.
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong professional relationships across the organization.

Compensation:

  • Base Salary: $85,000-$100,000
  • FLSA Status: Exempt 
  • Bonus Type: Year-end Discretionary

Location

  • Denver, CO: On-site with a hybrid component once fully trained
