In recognition of Spinal Cord Injury awareness month in September, Home Builders Foundation (HBF) recently gathered at the home of Victor C., who sustained a spinal cord injury as the result of a motorcycle accident in 2018. HBF, with help from HBA's Emerging Leaders and staff, built a large deck and accessible ramp for Victor outside. The deck has increased safety for Victor and independent access to enjoy his yard. Victor utilizes the new outdoor space to host gatherings that allow individuals with spinal cord injuries to connect, celebrate and support one another. A former patient at Craig Hospital, Victor started an online support group for other patients during the Covid pandemic. The new space allows the group to meet in person and explore hands-on activities such as stained glass art, which Victor learned during rehabilitation. The HBF also completed flooring and a fully accessible bathroom inside the home.
